The Future of GMing

While this is a little rough, the News at Seven (edit) totally blows me away. While I don't see this type of thing replacing a good GM, I definitely think that as a game aid, there is a lot of potential here. Combine it with a more intuitive software Gaming Table (this is what currently exists) and some good "off the shelf" gaming modules and I think that RPGs could expand its base a lot more quickly. Or we can take the whole thing online with Skype and custom Avatar Overlays. Now we have an online rpg experience that I can get behind.

Is the "it" the software gaming table? It's not clear what the it that totally blows you away is...

Bah! The link that blows me away did not post. I will edit the post. *Sigh*

Just in case someone isn't familiar with them, there are a number of virtual table tops.

I like Fantasy Grounds.

I've been a user for a while now and have been enjoying it! There is no way I could participate in multiple weekly face to face campaigns without it.

LOL dude, are you kidding me? Did you LISTEN to the news "report"? I couldn't make head or tail out of it, it's unintelligible, makes pauses in the wrong places, there's no feeling, and just sounds annoying.

If anything, making a GM out of that would send players FLOCKING to find good human GMs.

Maybe in another 5 or 10 years. but Not now.

Oh and I agree, for online playing nothing beats Fantasy Grounds + Skype. Nothing.

There are many other virtual gaming tools out there as well.

I personally use Klooge+Ventrilo to run our games.

Klooge allows more customization and rules support then Fantasy Grounds, and Ventrilo has better sound than Skype for larger groups.

I agree that in its current incarnation, it is not adequate, but you have to remember that the entire newscast, in fact every newscast, is created by the program, not a person. The choosing of the topic, the finding of videos, the text choices, everything.

Look at this as a blurry vision of a possible future, rather than just an inadequate present.
